QRoad was commissioned to carry out an extensive Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) pavement survey on the Soesdyke–Linden Highway in Guyana. The investigation formed part of a feasibility study and rehabilitation design for this important 72.8 km highway connecting Soesdyke and Linden.

The highway was surveyed in both directions using a vehicle-mounted, multi-frequency GPR system specifically designed for pavement investigations. Measurements were collected continuously at traffic speed, providing detailed information on the pavement structure without damaging the road and with minimal disruption to traffic.

The investigation focused on mapping pavement layer thicknesses and structural variations along the highway. In addition, the GPR data were analysed to locate and map potential subsurface anomalies, such as voids, delamination, settlement and other irregularities within or beneath the pavement structure.

The collected radar data were processed and interpreted by QRoad’s GPR specialists using dedicated analysis software. The results were presented through pavement profiles, layer-thickness data, maps and geographically referenced anomaly locations to support further engineering assessment and rehabilitation planning.

This project demonstrates the value of GPR testing for large-scale road and highway investigations. Continuous non-destructive measurements provide valuable insight into pavement construction, layer-thickness variation and subsurface conditions that cannot be obtained from isolated investigation points alone.
